Turf Specialist/Maintenance Manager – Elizabethtown Sports Park (posted 2-10-10)
The City of Elizabethtown is receiving applications for a turf specialist/maintenance manager. This position will be responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive athletic field and turf maintenance program, as well as directing maintenance for the Elizabethtown Sports Park, a 150 acre tournament quality facility being constructed to provide youth baseball, football and soccer fields of play.
Essential Functions
- Under the general direction of the facility manager, establish and operate the maintenance program for the facility. Implement activities necessary to accomplish goals, determine maintenance priorities, identify alternatives and cost effective ways to get improved results.
- Develop and perform a comprehensive turf management program, to include all aspects of irrigation and irrigation systems, weed control, fertilization, turf development, turf repair, turf renovation, grass cutting, soil testing, field drainage, landscaping, infield preparation and construction for athletic fields.
- Train and oversee employees to perform a high level of turf and landscaping maintenance.
- Maintain active maintenance records (daily, weekly, monthly) of all facilities including fertilization, mowing, herbicide and pesticide applications, plantings, buildings and utilities maintenance.
- Gather information regarding trends and ways to improve athletic fields, athletic turf, and grass play areas and field playing conditions. Seek and attend continuing education and training.
- Prepare and monitor annual operating and capital improvements budgets for athletic fields and maintenance operations; analyze and assess needs, estimate costs, make recommendations to ensure fiscal effectiveness and correlation with budgeted resources.
- Ensure proper maintenance and operation of related athletic field and management equipment such as top-dresser, tractors, mowers, trucks and aerators.
- Personally operate equipment and perform maintenance duties as required.
Eligibility Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy or Turf Grass Management or a combination of education and experience in tournament quality athletic field turf management, irrigation control, chemical applications, drainage maintenance, facility management and supervision of personnel for such activities.
Resident of and agree to reside in Hardin County, Kentucky. Possess a valid Kentucky Driver’s License or ability to obtain. Neat in appearance, good moral character and not convicted of a felony crime. Physically capable of performing maintenance and management tasks.
Must obtain any applicable pesticide applicator’s license or landscape irrigation license required within six (6) months of employment.
